Rivière des Prairies
Sometimes referred to as the Back River by English-speakers, the Rivière des Prairies divides the Island of Montreal from Île Jésus, which is Laval's home island. The river's waters run west to east, and are dotted with numerous more islands of the Hochelaga Archipelago. |

St. Lawrence River
One of the world's greatest rivers, the St. Lawrence gushes freshwater from the Great Lakes for 1247 kilometres (775 miles) to the Atlantic. It has been used for centuries for shipping into mainland North America. However, its usefulness fails to outshine its beauty. Near Kingston, the river is littered with many islands, aptly called the Thousand Islands. Affection for this region stretches back for thousands of years to Native Canadians who named it 'The Garden of the Great Spirit'. |
